A Passion for Preaching in Mlolongo, Africa
“We are not after anything except the Word of God.”
Around the world this month, from the small villages in rural Africa to the bustling cities of Colombia and beyond, Langham will be providing Biblical training and mentoring to pastors in 18 countries. For some of these pastors, this will be the first formal training of any sort they’ve had with the Scriptures. But for all, it will be a chance to learn how to faithfully preach God’s Word and bring biblical solutions to the issues facing their communities. And when the Word of God is clearly preached, the church will transform. Just ask Lloyd Murithi.
As a Langham-trained preacher, he has felt the impact of spiritual growth in his church and in his own life. “By living the Word of God, my life has been transformed. I know without the Word of God, I can’t do anything. Without the Word of God, I can be tempted … but by reading the Word of God daily, I can overcome temptations.” As a member of the Athi River church in Mlolongo, Africa, he has seen the true gospel pierce through the all-too-common false teachings of the prosperity gospel and into the hearts of men and women. “In Kenyan churches, so many preachers, when you hear their messages, they are only speaking about the way people can get wealth,” he says. “But people who have been in the Langham Preaching Club, they are preaching what the Word says. We are not after anything except the Word of God . . . The church members are very happy. They are receiving the Word and they are getting something from the Word.”
In this small East Africa village, we are coming one step closer to the heart of John Stott’s vision for the global church: every pulpit in every church occupied by a conscientious, Bible-believing, Bible-studying, Bible-expounding pastor.
