Watch: One scholar, the platform of a PhD, a nation impacted

The Langham Scholars program equips leaders for the Majority World church by funding and shepherding emerging theological leaders through PhD programs, preparing them for a lifetime of multiplicative ministry as they train others and shape nations.

But . . . why a PhD? Because a sustainable response to urgent issues like civil unrest, poverty and persecution requires serious structure, intense organization, and creative strategy rooted in Scripture. Theology, and theological training, is critical for not only deconstructing harmful ideas and systems, but also reconstructing healthy ones. And *studies show investing in theological education is an investment with multiplying impact, as:

  • Each Langham Scholar, over a lifetime of ministry, will directly impact 5,575 biblical leaders who themselves will multiply even more leaders to shepherd the church in vulnerable places.
  • 80% of Langham Scholars equip students who go on to launch new ministries, churches or schools.
  • 35% advise their governments and international NGOs with a biblical perspective.

Meet Langham Scholar Sergiy Tymchenko from Ukraine, and be inspired at how his chance meeting with John Stott led him to pursue a PhD. That PhD positioned him to help his nation respond to a series of violent protests in 2013. Now, he is helping to equip the pastors and chaplains who serve on the frontlines of his country.
