Your Retirement Account Can Make an Eternal Difference

By Kevin VandenBrink
Over the years, you’ve worked hard. You’ve saved faithfully. You’ve planned wisely for your family’s future.
You may not realize it, but because of this, your retirement account may be one of the most powerful tools you have to strengthen Christ’s church for generations to come.
Recently, I was speaking with a Langham friend and financial advisor. With genuine urgency he said:
“We need to tell people how easy it is to make a transformational gift by simply listing Langham as a beneficiary in their retirement account.”
He’s right.

For many families, this is one of the simplest ways to make a lasting Kingdom investment.
Here’s why:
1. It’s Simple
You can name Langham as a beneficiary of all or a portion of your IRA, 401(k) or 403(b) without changing your will or trust. In most cases, it can be done in just a few minutes through your plan administrator.
2. It Doesn’t Affect Your Life Today
You retain full control of your account. You can change beneficiaries at any time. This is a future gift — one that flows from what God has already provided.
3. It’s Wise Stewardship
Retirement accounts can be heavily taxed when left to heirs (other than a spouse). Because Langham is a qualified nonprofit ministry, 100% of the portion you designate will go directly to strengthening pastors and churches around the world.
4. It Can Be Far More Significant Than You Think
If you’ve been contributing for decades, your retirement account may now represent one of your largest assets. A beneficiary designation could become one of the most impactful gifts you ever make — potentially exceeding your lifetime giving.
And imagine what that could mean:
- Pastors trained.
- Churches strengthened.
- Biblical resources placed in the hands of leaders around the world.
All because of a simple decision you made today.
